WORKSHOPS
Betsy Choules - Workshop Chair
Deadline: June 10, 2007 Workshop proposal forms are now available here. If you have never attended a 3D convention,
you're in for a treat. NSA and ISU members are passionate about their hobbies
and are willing to teach others. Whether you're in learning mode, teaching mode
or both, there will be workshop opportunities from Wednesday July 11th through
Sunday July 15th.
Here are some proposed workshops (check your program when you get to the
convention for actual workshops and dates and times as they may change):
Jigs for Stereo Slide Mounting
Wednesday, July 11th, 1:00-2:00 pm
Don Parks
A major barrier for beginners in the art of stereo film
photography is the difficulty and expense involved in accurately mounting
film pairs into 41x101 mm standard stereo slide mounts. This workshop
reviews the accurate stereo film mounting principles incorporated in high
precision RBT plastic mounts. Then methods are demonstrated for easily
constructing jigs that greatly simplify accurately mounting five sprocket
width Realist or Kodak camera film pairs into low cost cardboard heat seal
stereo mounts. The method described is also applicable to mounting 4,5,7,
and 8 sprocket width stereo film chips into the corresponding "Spicer" brand
precision cardboard mounts.

From Eyes to Images
Wednesday, July 11th, 2:00-3:00 pm
Brian McConnell
This workshop will describe and demonstrate how we see, how
to make twin cameras represent our eyes, and how to design stereoscopes to
reconstruct the images.

Practicle Shooting Setup for Phantograms
Thursday, July 12th, 8:00-9:00 am
Barry Rothstein
Phantograms require a very specific setup when shooting a
subject to achieve the proper effect in the final print. This workshop will
demonstrate how to setup those shots.
Processing Phantograms
Wednesday, July 12th, 9:00-10:00 am
Shab Levy
This workshop will demonstrate how to take the images you
acquire from using the method in the previous workshop (Practicle Shooting
Setup for Phantograms) and make them into Phantogram prints. You will be
able to see the entire process from importing the images, to perspective
manipulation, to anaglyph creation to final print.

3D in Art Galleries and Museums - a Two Part Workshop
Wednesday, July 12th, 10:00-12:00 am
Ray Zone
Part 1 - Slide Show
10:00-11:00 am
Part 2 - Panel Discussion
11:00-12:00 am
The challenges that stereographers face in art gallery
display of 3D images are unique to the medium. This workshop will have Ray
Zone moderate a panel of eminent stereographers who have exhibited their
work in art galleries. Part 1 of the workshop will consist of a 50 minute 2D
digital projection program showing how various 3D artists have displayed
their stereography in art galleries. After a short break, the 3D artists
will sit on a panel and will address some of the complex issues faced by
stereographers in presenting their work to the public. Confirmed panelists
include Ron Labbe, Phyllis Maslin, Chistopher Schneberger, Boris Starosta,
Larry Ferguson, and Diane Rulien and Annie Dubinsky of the 3D Center of Art
and Photography in Portland, Oregon. The discussion should prove
illuminating and provocative. It will provide useful information to
stereographers in exhibiting their 3D images to the public.

Survey of Contemporary Fine Art Photography
Friday, July 13th, 8:00-9:00 am
Chris Schneberger
As we discuss the role, or absence, of stereo photography in
the fine art world, it is necessary to have some understanding of the issues
and artists in that realm. Contemporary fine art photography, like any
medium, is an ongoing discourse with ever changing topics. This lecture will
hopefully give an overview of the conversation, so that we may be better
prepared to join. For clarification, "contemporary" will be defined as 1960
to present, and "fine art" as that where the sole purpose is for exhibition
in museums and galleries, and for purchase by collectors.

active users of digital 3D camera setups are invited to attend to share
their experiences as well. Brand new digital 3D setups that will be shown
include Larry's Casio based 3D Advantage 1050 system , Jacobs SONY P200/
W80/W90/W200 and H7 setups., RBT's Nikon Coolpix 5000 based D4 digital and
