EXHIBITS

There will be several exhibitions this year. The annual NSA Card Exhibition, the SSA Card Exhibition, the On-Site Film and Digital Slide Exhibition, and the Large Format Exhibit. The NSA and the SSA Card and the On-Site Exhibitions are competitions with judging and awarded prizes. The Large Format Exhibit is an art gallery for the display and selling of images. Information about each is below. Also continuing the tradition there will be a themed digital show open to everyone.

Large Format Exhibit

John Hart (Colorado) - Chair

Deadline: June 15, 2007

Download the entry form here.

This exhibition will provide a venue for displaying large format stereo images.  Examples of such works include anaglyph prints, phantograms, lenticular stereos, stereojet prints, stereoscopic drawing and paintings, View-Magic format print-pairs, MirScope (mirror-view) print-pairs, backlit films, and computer displays, Side-by-side prints formatted for the Hyperview system, beam splitter viewed prints or computer displays, or any other type of display that features original images considerably larger than printed stereocards and 35mm and medium-format transparencies.  Tables will be provided for displays.  Special viewers or stands will usually be provided by each exhibitor as required, but some viewing systems will available for use by exhibitors (contact the chairman).  The Chairman and the NSA Convention Staff reserves the right to reject entries that are not suitable for display in this exhibit.  Exhibit entries may, at the choice of the exhibitor, be marked for sale as individual artworks. All sales will be solely between the artist and the buyer and the convention/congress will not be involved or held accountable.

There will be a grand opening reception for the art gallery on Friday the 13th from 7:00 to 10:00 PM with a no host bar. This will be a great chance to meet and socialize with the artists that have created the works you are looking at.

NSA Modern and Vintage Card Exhibition

John Hart (California) - Chair

Deadline: June 22, 2007

Download the entry form and a copy of the rules here.

Stereoview Competition Rules

  1. Only members of the ISU or NSA are eligible to submit entries.  Only stereoview cards are eligible.
  2. There are two Divisions:  Vintage Stereoview format (more than 50 years old) and Modern Stereoview format (views photographed by the entrant).  No more than two entries per Division are allowed.

A.)    Vintage Stereoview cards - The entry must have a theme or present a story.  Originals must be provided for judging, but you may provide high quality reproductions to be used for public display.  Entries are judged according to rarity, presentation, and topic.

B.)    Modern Stereoview cards - The entry must have a theme or topic.  Both photographic and computer-generated images will be accepted.  Entries are judged by the PSA criteria for sequences.

  1. No more than twelve or fewer than eight stereoviews shall constitute an entry.  Views are expected to be in the traditional 3-1/2” x 7” format; the height can be taller, but must fit into a 5” x 7” sleeve.  For Modern Stereoviews, cards in the 4” x 6” DSEC format are also acceptable.  Each entry should be titled (one of the 5” x 7” cards may be used).  A 5” x 7” typewritten explanation card may be substituted for one of the views to provide additional information about the set.
  2. Stereoview entries will be exhibited behind clear plastic in 5” x 7” sleeves, so the entrant should supply a 5” x 7” backing sheet for each of their cards – the design and color is entrant’s choice.  Any information germane to the view may be typed across the top of the backing card.  For Modern Stereoviews the name of the maker should not be included on the backing cards, images or presentations (Photographers will be identified after judging).
  3. The NSA will provide the method of display for the Stereoview cards and the display sleeves. An Entry Form must be submitted for each entry, and postmarked by June 22, 2007.
  4. Those bringing their entries to the Convention must bring them to the Registration Desk during open hours, but before 10:00 AM on Thursday July 12, 2007.  Entrants not delivering their entries in person must ship them as indicated on the entry form, along with payment for return shipping.  They must be well-packed and arrive by July 6, 2007. If there is a change in delivery plans, please be sure to notify David W. Kesner at nsacard@dddphotography.com.
  5. Ribbons will be awarded within each division for First, Second and Third place.  The Tex Treadwell Award will be given to the Judge’s choice as “Best of Show”.

Group Themed Digital Slide Exhibition

Ron Labbe - Chair

Deadline: June 1, 2007

In Miami it was heat, but in Boise we're talking about people's favorite subject: FOOD! The Group Show theme for this year will be the delicious subject of FOOD. We're looking for any images of digestibles that are interesting, fun, and of course 3D! This is an opportunity for you to participate in the digital theater even if you don't have a full-fledged show. It can be an antique or vintage image, a picture you took years ago, or something new! Anything related to food will be considered. Ron Labbe will be putting the show together in 2XGA format - if you can't provide digital files he can scan your hard copy for you.

On-Site Film and Digital Slide Competition

Don Parks - Chair

The NSA has added an on-site slide competition to its convention fare for several years. Now digital stereo is becoming as popular as traditional photographic stereo slides and prints. This year the 33rd NSA Convention is being combined with the 16th ISU Congress to advance 3-D imaging on a global scale. There are more than enough workshops, auctions, trade fairs, slide plus digital projected 3-D theater sessions, organizational meetings, and field trips to completely fill any person’s schedule. There is not enough time to do everything. However, many active 3-D photographers carry their camera(s) everywhere and record the people, activities, interesting scenes, and cultural flavors of their convention experience. This 3-D Image Competition is intended to provide both a challenge and an outlet to share with others, this year’s convention experience in stereo.

A lot of good photographic subject matter is within easy walking distance from the Boise Convention Center / Grove Hotel block. Boise has a relatively small downtown with lots going on. Half way between the State Capital building and the former Union Pacific Train Depot is where Capital Blvd. intersects the Boise River. This is only about 3 blocks from the Grove Hotel. Greenbelt pathways run for miles both upstream and downstream along the Boise River. There are several parks and the campus of Boise State University spread out along these banks. The nearest park is Julia Davis Park at about 2 blocks south of the hotel. This park has an art museum, history museum, rose garden, zoo and about a mile of river front. The friendship pedestrian bridge crosses the river leading to the BSU campus (home of the now famous blue turf football field).

Convention registrants may submit up to 4 images for this competition / exhibition. The submitted images can be recorded on slide film or onto digital file memory. Slide film must be mounted in 41x101mm RBT plastic stereo slide mounts. Digital image files need to be formatted properly and recorded onto a CD or downloaded at the time of entry. Competition entries will be accepted until 9:00 am Sunday, July 15, 2007. All film mounting and digital file formatting needs to have been done by then and entries must be accompanied by a completed entry form. Judging will occur later on Sunday morning and exhibition shows will be prepared for the final stereo theater session starting at 2 pm Sunday afternoon.

E-6 Slide film processing is available at the downtown Idaho Camera store which is about 1½ blocks north of the fountain that is directly between the Grove Hotel and the Boise Convention Center. Idaho Camera’s store hours are 9:30 am to 5:30 pm on Monday through Saturday. If you take in the film to be processed before 10:30 am it will be ready to pick up that same day after 4:00 pm. If you take in the film between 10:30 am and 3:30pm it will be back and ready to pick up the next morning after 10:30 am. They do not process on Saturday. Idaho Camera has agreed to run a late processing batch on Friday so that film brought in by noon on Friday will be back on Saturday morning.

A slide mounting area will be open in the Payette River room with equipment and staff to help you with your mounting. Here are the hours:
